ELISE O’CONNELL NAMED MISS WISCONSIN’S OUTSTANDING TEEN 2014
Oshkosh, Wis., June 24, 2014 — On Friday, June 20, 2014, Elise O’Connell, age 17 from Bristol, Wis., won the title of Miss Wisconsin’s Outstanding Teen 2014 at the Alberta Kimball Auditorium in Oshkosh, Wis. Representing Fox River Valley’s Outstanding Teen program, O’Connell won a $1000 cash scholarship and other prizes. For the talent competition, she performed a vocal piece entitled “On My Way” from the musical Violet.
O’Connell is ready for her year as Miss Wisconsin’s Outstanding Teen. “This is the culmination of hard work toward my dream. I have been competing for several years and am so happy to be Miss Wisconsin’s Outstanding Teen,” said O’Connell. She will promote the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals during her year as well as promote her personal platform of “Peers for Peace - Stop Bullying.” A student at the Chicago Academy of the Arts, she aspires to earn a degree in musical theater.
O’Connell will compete at the 2015 Miss America’s Outstanding Teen pageant in Orlando held July 29 – August 2, 2014. “It will be exciting to see all Elise will accomplish and watch her compete to become Miss America’s Outstanding Teen,” said Brenda Baudo, Executive Director, Miss Wisconsin’s Outstanding Teen program. “As a sister program to Miss Wisconsin, Elise will travel the state, meet with people and promote her platform. She will be a fantastic role model for both young women and young men.”
During the teen pageant, Miss Wisconsin 2013 Paula Mae Kuiper was a featured performer, along with former Miss Wisconsin’s Outstanding Teens including Kiersten Gonzales (2009), Teaka Griesbach (2010) and Annie Jorgensen (2011). There were also 12 participants in the Miss Wisconsin Princess Program. O’Connell was one of 19 young ladies representing areas from across the State in Friday’s program. About Miss Wisconsin’s Outstanding Teen Program
Founded in 2005, Miss Wisconsin’s Outstanding Teen program is a preliminary for Miss America’s Outstanding Teen, a scholarship-based program offering accomplished teens the opportunity to be awarded funds for college. The program promotes scholastic achievement, creative accomplishment, healthy living and community involvement for America's teens. The Miss Wisconsin Outstanding Teen Pageant is an Official State Pageant of the Miss Wisconsin Organization.
The Miss Wisconsin Outstanding Teen Pageant (WIOT) is an official state preliminary to Miss America's Outstanding Teen. Miss Wisconsin Outstanding Teen is a scholarship based program giving accomplished teens the opportunity to win college scholarship funds. The Miss Wisconsin Outstanding Teen program joins Miss America's Outstanding Teen in promoting scholastic achievement, creative accomplishment, healthy living and community involvement for America's teens.
The competition is intended to encourage and reward the talent, communication skills, community service, and academic achievement of girls between 13 and 17 years of age.
